The Gem & Jam Festival is returning for the 11th installment of the in Tucson, Arizona this February 3rd through the 5th and happens to coincide with the Tucson Gem, Mineral, and Fossil Showcase. Though in the past it has been held downtown in AZ this year organizers revealed the event would be moved to a larger and more beautiful location: Pima County Fairgrounds. This new location offers 640 acres for gem and mineral exhibits, workshops, dancers, visual performers, art gallery installations, special late night sets, three stages, a lineup of over 50 artists, and for the first time in Gem and Jam history ON-SITE CAMPING!
It is exciting to be able to showcase a lineup as dynamic as what we are bringing to Gem & Jam 2017,” said festival co-producer Josh Pollack. “Couple this with our new venue, which now allows us to be a true camping festival and you have the recipe for the best Gem & Jam yet.”
On-site camping aside; the lineup for this year’s Gem & Jam is an insane mix of dance music, jam bands, folk, and some electronic funk. Helming the Electronic funk is this year’s headliner: Slovenian-American artist Gramatik. Recently Gramatik has been collaborating with two of my personal favorites Griz and Big Gigantic and I can’t wait to see what he brings to this unique festival. In addition to an amazing headliner, there will also be a big cheesy appearance of the String Cheese Incident with three separate collaborations scheduled including the rare appearance of The Trancident. And if that weren’t enough there is an entire set being devoted to doing a Grateful Dead tribute called Play The Dead on Sunday! Play of the Dead will feature Steve Kimock, Bobby Vega, Wally Ingram, Jeff Chimenti, and members of Colorado jam band The Motet.
If you have been looking for the ultimate burner experience but aren’t sure if you are quite ready for the giants of Lightning in a Bottle or Burning Man (or even if you are like me and have a hoarded collection of gems, rocks, and fossils taking up room on your dresser amongst all the wristbands from past festivals) then Gem and Jam is a festival can’t miss!
An Experience Pass includes admission to the festival all 4 days + night events (late night events subject to capacity) at $189 (not including camping) are available via Ticketfly. Walk-in Camping is $30, Car Camping is $85, RV Camping is $179, and for the full experience there are boutique camping options ranging from $799-$999.
